Iran to strengthen economic power despite drop in oil price

Iran to strengthen economic power despite drop in oil price

Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Oil Minister of Iraq Adel Abdul-Mehdi.

Shamkhani, also a representative of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to the SNSC, said the country’s decision to strengthen its economic power was in line with the Resistance Economy Strategy introduced by the Leader to avoid negative effects of the anti-Iran sanctions imposed by Western powers.

'Destruction of economic infrastructures of the regional countries, including those of Iraq and Syria, by terrorist groups and airstrikes by the fighter planes of the so-called anti-terror coalition forces aimed at preventing economic progress of the Islamic states,' said the official.

Referring to Iran-Iraq exploitory operations in their joint oil and gas fields, Shamkhani said Tehran-Baghdad cooperation to this end can be used as a role model for the cooperation of other Islamic countries.

The official added Iran and Iraq will soon experience economic boom after the two capitals signed a number of agreements on bilateral cooperation including dredging the Aravand River, linking railway networks of the two countries, raising transit of goods, making joint investments in the fields of oil and gas and petrochemical activities as well as cooperation between the Iranian and Iraqi port cities.

Mesnwhile, the Iraqi minister said that Iraqis are interested in promoting bilateral cooperation with neighboring states, Iran in particular.

Abdul-Mehdi voiced Baghdad's readiness to boost bilateral cooperation.

He said Iraq is to make use of Iran’s valuable experiences in the fields of reconstruction, oil, gas and petrochemical industries.
