Stop insult in order to stop violence: Official

Nahavandian made the remarks in a post appeared on his personal weblog on Tuesday in reaction to the new insulting move of the French magazine Charlie Hebdo against the Prophet of Islam (PBUH).

The French weekly’s latest edition features a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) shedding a tear while holding a sign that reads “Je suis Charlie” with the words “All is forgiven” in French above it on a green background.

Charlie Hebdo made the move a week after 12 people were killed in a terrorist shooting against its offices in Paris on January 7.
The French weekly has repeatedly provoked Muslim anger by publishing offensive cartoons featuring Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) which is considered an act of sacrilege.

According to Nahavandian, insult and ridicule are gunpowders of the weapon of extremism. Those who insult religious sanctities help spread violence and extremism.

The official also warned against using the Freedom of Expression as an instrument to offense or provoke others, damage freedom and act as an accomplice to genocide.
