Electricity swap with neighbors tops 1,667 megawatts

Energy Ministry said on Wednesday that Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Armenia and Turkey exchanged 1,376 megawatts of electricity until Tuesday and the total electricity imports from Armenia and Turkmenistan topped 291 megawatts.

The balance of Iran's electricity swap with neighbors reached 1,085 megawatts on Tuesday.

Iran is currently swapping electricity with Armenia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iraq and Afghanistan.

In October 2013, Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian expressed pleasure with the growing volume of Iran's power exports to the neighboring states, and said Iraq, a main consumer of Iranian electricity, has called on Tehran to boost power supplies to the country.

“We have an upward trend of electricity exports to the neighboring countries, including Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Pakistan and Afghanistan,” Chitchian said.
