Iran largest steel producer in Middle East: WSA

Iran produced 16.331 million tons of crude steel in 2014, a 5.9 percent rise from 15.422 million tons in 2013.
World crude steel production for the 65 countries reporting to the WSA was 1.661 billion tons in 2014, a 1.2 percent rise compared to 1.642 billion tons in 2013.
The Middle East, the smallest region for crude steel production had the most robust growth. 
Iran exported 1.33 million tons of crude steel since the beginning of current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2014), witnessing 80 tons rise from 1.25 million tons in the same period of time last year, according to Iran’s Steel Producers Association Chairman Bahram Sobhani.
Sobhani said Iran exported crude steel to over 50 countries during the mentioned period of time.
Iran’s crude steel output hit 15.64 million tons in Iranian calendar year 1392 (March 2013-March 2014), a 9 percent rise compared to the year before.
According to officials, the output is projected to increase to 55 million tons by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2010-2015).
Iran was the biggest producer of crude steel in the Middle East in 2013, according to the World Steel Association (WSA).
